Mechanical drum
Mechanical drum brakes are an alternative to electric and hydraulic brakes, however they do have very different needs in terms of their operation and response. Mechanical drum brakes are easy to operate and maintain, however the driver needs to be familiar with the actuating system behind their operation, in particular the amount of force to activate and equalise the force (centre pull).
Mechanical drum brakes are best suited to be fitted to trailers where regular adjustment and maintenance is possible. Regular braking will require the adjustment of the cables due to stretching, so it is important to install this brake option only when you know that the vehicle driver is capable of adjusting and maintaining this type of brake.
